BRAIN KILLER - Every Actual State Is Corrupt - LP
Here it is, BRAIN KILLER returns with their long awaited album. Sticking to their formula of fast America hardcore mixed with a heavy dose of noisy Japanese crust, this album now also includes a layer of UK peace punk. Nice gatefold jacket to boot.

7. Crucify 8. What's Your Excuse? 9. No Escape 10. Bigger Problems 11. What Is Survival?

B-Lines - S/T - LP
B-LINES s/t 12” (DY189 split release with Nominal)
B-Lines follow-up their sold out debut 7" with nine more short, sharp odes to awkwardness, alienation, and their hometown of Vancouver. Manic vocals atop perfectly simple and tuneful songs played with a frenzy that lands them in the sweet spot between hardcore and pop-punk. In keeping with their belief that LPs are for prog rock, it's all said and done before you'll have time to conceptualize your next snack.
Initial pressing of 500 copies.
Includes 8.5"x5" zine of lyrics and art, plus digital download. Artwork by Melanie Coles.

THE SHIRKS - Cry Cry Cry - 7" ltd red vinyl
Mailorder only red vinyl limited to 100 copies
Includes free download code
This is EP number four from one of Washington DC's finest, THE SHIRKS. CRY CRY CRY features three more infectious, guitar driven punk rock 'n roll A-Sides with 70's punk feel - there's a heavy SAINTS / Aussie KBD sound present in these tunes - run through the 90's garage filter while maintaining a raw and primitive vibe. To put things into perspective, Terminal Boredom might have put it best in a review of their last 7" on Windian, referring to the band's style as "East Coast tough-as-shit leather jacket punk bad ass-ness" ... while I'm not 100% sure what that means, I can't really disagree with it either because it sounds kinda perfect. THE SHIRKS have been at it for a few years now, with each release better than then next - if you have yet to check them out, then what better place to start than with this 7"?

School Jerks - Nothing Else EP - 7" ltd marble vinyl
SCHOOL JERKS - Nothing Else - 7"
Limited marble vinyl
WOW, I'd call this a semi 'CLASSIC' record. This is the 3 song debut EP from Toronto's School Jerks and it's a great follow up to the awesome demo. Ben and Ivan from Terminal State formed a band after TS' demise and rather than take all influence from the east coast, the band looked west. Early Flag, the Germs, Chiefs and Angry Samoans immediately come to mind. I can't recommend this any higher. These are 2nd press copies redone by Grave Mistake but using the covers and labels from the Riff Raff press and on MULTICOLOR WAX. If you don't have the 2nd record (aka Decline EP) or the newest one the Control EP, get those too.

DEEP SLEEP are at it again with their third EP! PARANOID FUTURES delivers six more infectious tracks brimming with the frustrations and anxieties that coincide with the rigors of everyday life. Continuing where 2008's MANIC EUPHORIA 7" left off, PARANOID FUTURES finds the band separating themselves even further from the simple "short and fast" method which laid the groundwork for their debut EP. Opting for a more dynamic approach DEEP SLEEP delve even further into the melodic ALL / DESCENDENTS influenced brand of punk rock while maintaining a healthy dose of both attitude and originality.

THE ERGS - Thrash Compactor EP - 7"
Includes free ownload code
The Ergs record that never was, but always should have been! The THRASH COMPACTOR E.P., most of which was recorded 7 years ago, finally sees the light of day in the form of this one-sided 7". Five songs of short, fast, and catchy hardcore/punk like only the Ergs can do it. If you're only familiar with their post-Ben Kweller EP catalog, then you might not be aware of their penchant for rippin' hardcore/punk along the lines of bands like Adrenaline OD, "Bonus Fat"-era Descendents, and Angry Samoans. With lyrics about douchebag frontmen of former punk bands, high school killing sprees, suburban banality, and killing presidents ... you know you can't go wrong. This EP will fly right by you, but hook you right in to keep playing it over and over. Thankfully, it's one-sided so you just gotta move the needle back to the start. No flipping required. SPLIT WITH FIRESTARTER RECORDS.

CULO - Toxic Vision - 7" EP ltd red or clear vinyl
Limited to 100 each colour
RED & CLEAR VINYL The follow-up to their highly praised ‘military trend’ 7” (see MRR review below), TOXIC VISION is CULO’s third 7” and it is a scorcher. Pure piss and vinegar hardcore delivered at high velocity and at no expense to catchy riffing. Mandatory! ‘This ripper will soon be filed under my “this fuckin’ rules!” category, never to be picked out during a desperate purging of the shelves. Listening to this gives me comfort in knowing that the torch of straight-up, yet distinctive hardcore is being passed along through good hands. These dudes throw down fast and frantic traditional HC that sounds like a bit of JERRYS KIDS mixed with Italian hardcore and a dose of fucking whatever it is that sounds just right to these ears. Four tracks and all of them are amazing. And now I’m getting a strange record collection sensation that my life will hereby be incomplete until I track down a copy of this EP for myself. Get this!’

Bloodtype - S/T - 7" ep
BLOODTYPE - ST - 7" ep
Limited red/black vinyl 100 copies only
Great debut EP from this NJ straight edge hardcore band. I remember getting a demo at random one day last year from Jeff (vox) and being very impressed by said demo tape, which is rare for me as I normally hear a band for myself (as in not getting a demo sent to me) & ask them myself to do a release. Well, this EP mops the floor with that demo stuff. The lyrics more pertain to typical angry topics of hardcore (growing out of the music, being hateful and just not getting along with everyone) than just being straight edge fare, which is rather enjoyable & reminded me of Cold Shoulder in that regard. I mean its like ''yeah, I already know you're drug/alcohol free so tell me something else too in your lyrics'' which is what's so refreshing about these sorts of sXe bands! Musically its of course hardcore punk, doesn't sound like any set band but is def influenced by bands like DYS and the Abused-but only influenced, not a ripoff. Also takes cues from modern edge bands with a huge penchant for punk! MRR said 'if punks were playing youth crew', think along those lines. Jeff's voice also is unique and that's another thing that makes this stand out-his voice has been compared to Craig of the Degenerics and I sort of agree. I'm also guessing by the cover its a subtle reference to their home state's Chronic Sick perhaps? A current fave of mine out of the east, if you really like straight edge HC and general hardcore punk check this out! This is the limited color vinyl for this EP, We asked for RED w BLACK swirls but got DARK MAROON with a RED stripe for the majority of the copies, stripes vary in size and some are more of a clearish BRICK RED without a stripe. Looks KILLER,

Sweet Tooth - Japanese Void EP - 7"
SWEET TOOTH - Japanese Void - 7"
Saved By Hardcore
Therapy Nightmare
Refuse
Pig Pen
Small Talk
Dont Come Close To Me
The grand debut from So.IL/St. Louis HC wonder youths Sweet Tooth featuring the brothers Meyer (of the zines 'I Was A Teenage Zombie' & 'Hey Ronnie' respectively). I (like others) raved about the demo & can only say if you enjoyed the demo that this one will knock your socks off. I sound like a used car salesman here! Anyways, its 6 well written short HC songs that are chock full of power. Erik is a great guitarist as his riffs hold a significant bit of importance to their sound and Kevin is a frantic frontman. Comparisons are indeed stupid and I'm guilty as charged, but elements of numerous sources can be culled here- Jellyroll Rockheads, Deep Wound, Siege, VOID, the Futures, Cold Sweat (esp in vocals) etc. Like a lot of stuff done on this label, this is for the cultist nuts for HC. It's never intended this way but I think those heavily involved or obsessed with crazy and intricate HC (like me obviously) will 'get this' the most.

Black Market Baby - Potential Suicide - 7" EP
BLACK MARKET BABY - Potential Suicide - 7"
POTENTIAL SUICIDE/YOUTH CRIMES/AMERICA'S YOUTH/KILLING TIME
Released nearly 30 years ago and out of print since then, Dr Strange has finally re-released this legendary Killed By Death 7" (originally on Limp Records) with two never before heard live versions of "America's Youth" and "Killing Time" from DC's 9:30 Club in 1984. The studio tracks were originally recorded by Skipp Groff at Inner Ear (Minor Threat, S.O.A., Teen Idles) and the live tracks by Government Issue's Tom Lyle. For fans of Minor Threat, Government Issue, Bad Brains, and Necros.
Black Market Baby from Washington DC were around in the late 70's and early 80's. Unlike most DC bands they played pretty straight forward punk rock instead of hardcore. They were pretty overshadowed by local hardcore bands, but had a great sound and style all their own and mixed well with the hardcore crowd. Their sound was more influenced by the Stooges/Dolls/Heartbreakers and UK Punk than hardcore. This 7" re issue from Dr. Strange features the original two songs on the Limp Records ep plus two never heard live tracks. Because it was on some comps this gets labelled as "KBD" punk at times. However you slice it, great early US punk.

Slobs - Look Busy Do Nothing EP - 7"
SLOBS - Look Busy Do Nothing - 7"
Hardly spoken of and rather elusive (NOT MYSTERIOUS) is Montreal's SLOBS, not 'The Slobs' like the KBD band but just SLOBS. This band keeps a low profile probably intentionally out of not giving a damn and their demo made some rounds but seemed to only make it into the hands of well researched demo collectors. Said demo was somehow pressed on vinyl in a very small press in early 2010 by a local Montreal label and I don't see it around much anymore. This is their debut EP and if you didn't know the band they play a rowdy style of east coast hardcore punk that's ready for you to skank & bedroom mosh to. When I first heard the demo in 2009 I immediately thought of stuff like CFD era Necros meets early NYHC injected with a real dose of PUNK and it totally stomped my nuts. This debut EP is more of that same greatness but maybe add in some grittier elements like Nihilistics, make it more tough & make it a little faster & more punk. And yet, they still sound so distinctly Canadian and I mean that in the best way. Boasts members of the lovely OMEGAS for those sorts of people who buy records based off that unimportant 'members of' crap.

These 6 tracks still follow the same path as the other 2 records of 1980'81 influenced punk rock that's fence riding hardcore (with so subtle rock influence), but if you ask me the band has an even grittier influence to it this time from Solger to early PI flowing thru the riffs. Of course Black Flag whether they like it or not remains a comparison note and plus on this one you can actually make out some of Luke's vocals on here. Mastered by Dan Randall for maximum effect making it their finest effort to date.

Migraine - Weird Tales EP - 7" limited white vinyl
MIGRAINE - Weird Tales EP - 7" limited white vinyl
"Weird Tales" is the second record from bizarre Bay Area punk group Migraine. The A-side continues from where the first one ended in that No Comment meets United Mutation way but the B-side ventures more into a chaotic blend of Slices, Swans and black metal style hardcore. Art done by Dan of Cult Ritual, not unlike the current Youth Attack bands.
TRACK LISTING:
1. Pemonitions 2. Visions 3. Feast Or Famine 4. The Occurence 5. Recurring Nightmare 6. Encroaching Darkness

Vile Nation - No Exit - 7" ltd white vinyl
VILE NATION - No Exit - 7" ltd white vinyl. Such an excellent record, even 3 years later it just sounds classic! This is the debut EP from Memphis' TN own Vile Nation. Very mean, raw and ugly fast 'thrash' (before thrash was a dirty word) hardcore with a heavy dose of punk. One can't listen to this and not hear the 1st 7'' era of D.R.I, Neon Christ and Negative FX and bands of that same time frame and caliber being channeled here. Chris just spews the words out pissed n' fast and the band keeps up. Members of Life Trap & School Jerks play in this band as well. Words can't describe how utterly amazing this record is, its just great great great! These copies with a big center hole & on WHITE WAX.

Chainsaw To The Face - S/T - 7" ltd clear vinyl
CHAINSAW TO THE FACE - ST - 7" ltd clear vinyl
Long awaited debut EP from CTTF of New Jersey! More than a few things kept this sucker from coming out for sometime but it finally sees the light of day! You may remember them from their early demos, split tapes or of course the split 10'' w Hummingbird of Death which are all fine and good recordings, but they really need to be heard on this record. Harsh, brutal and hate filled east coast grind-violence from these straight edge guys. Violent lyrics & imagery remains the usual theme for this band on this EP (like any of their past material) and its all done in a very non-gimmicky kind of way, which is refreshing. Recording is very punk and the sound is lo-fi,, which is perfect for a record like this. This style of harsh, real 'power violence' is NOT for everyone, so wimps and poseurs need not apply since this is for the real cult freaks. 19 songs in all on this EP, they're influenced by such greats as Plutocracy, Assuck, No Comment and Excruciating Terror who are all bands I'd say if you like and listen to, you should get this record. We have 1 color vinyl EXCLUSIVE to us and the band also has a color vinyl EXCLUSIVE to them. This isn't some collector scheme, it was done to help them sell their records locally and make that color an 'east coast' exclusive.

Dark Ages - Vicious Lie ep - 7" ltd orange vinyl
DARK AGES - Vicious Lie - 7" ltd orange vinyl
The great debut EP from Kansas City's Dark Ages! Continuing from where their killer 4 song demo (which also saw a pressing on vinyl) left off, this picks it up from point A and yet cover new ground at the same time. Its progressed a little but not to the point where its evil to punks. Its like its more refined and the band knows which direction to take this musically. Lyrically it tackles similar angry topics as the demo did-being pro anti-religion, questioning politics (NOT preaching) and also a song about trying to not think of everything in a negative way, to be positive for a change. It's kind of like stuff you've heard before but really can't make comparisons to other bands with this record as they've developed a sound all their own &t its clearly midwestern. This is just Dark Ages and this is far from boring retread or mysterious HC/punk, comes w nice color covers. This PRESS on OPAQUE RED ORANGE.

High Life - S/T - 7" ltd lavender vinyl
HIGH LIFE - ST - 7" limited lavender vinyl
Brand new 2nd EP from High Life. The band is now from all over the place from Illinois to Missouri to Texas, but the sound remains the same. Very angry still but this record is a lot louder and a little slower. The style of playing sort of off key and just sounding insane is replaced with a more controlled outburst of rage backed with excellent playing from the band. I really don't know how to define what they sound like now, its almost like later Poison Idea and Citizens Arrest being filtered through Zen and the Art era 9 Shocks Terror. 4 songs of hateful, drug induced hardcore punk. This one literally kills the 1st record.

No Comment - Common Senseless - 7" EP + badge
No Comment, for those who may have missed the boat, No Comment is powerviolence before it had a name and, therefore, is not shitty like the glut of bands unsuccessfully attempting to achieve the sound. This shit is extremely fast hardcore, somewhat similar to Infest, but better. I said it. Gone are the somewhat awkward samples of political speeches from their demo tape and, in their place, is better production and a tighter sound. While not quite as perfect as their masterpiece, Downsided, this 7" trumps most everything else from the era - thanx to icoulddietommorrow.
Release: 1989/2010
Label: Deepsix Records
Tracklist:
1. For Tommorow's Sake
2. Saying Uncle
3. A Mother's Crime
4. Community Slugs
5. In The Name Of Stupidity
6. Farmer John Hitler
7. World Of Difference
8. Special Circumstances

Authorities - Soundtrack To Trouble - 7" EP
AUTHORITIES - Soundtrack For Trouble - 7" EP
SOUNDTRACK TO TROUBLE - KBD REISSUE
Track listing: ACHTUNG!/I HATE COPS/BETWEEN THE THIGHS/RADIATIONMASTURBATION/SHOT IN THE HEAD/LSD
One of the all time greats! I first heard this 7" back in the early 80's when a friend played it for me over the phone and I have loved it ever since. This re issue features the original four tracks and two "bonus tracks" that have been saved for the CD version. The original four songs are so killer, great punk/hardcore from Stockton California circa 1982. Just totally snotty and raw punk/hardcore "I hate cops" is one of the all time best punk party anthems. This band gets lumped in with "KBD" punk a lot since they were on some of those comps, but the songs are more like right on the edge between punk and hardcore and are catchy as fuck. You can't not sing along to this after your first listen, you will remember these songs forever and when they come on the stereo years from now, you will starting singing along "I...HATE...COPS...I...HATE...COPS" -- Felix Havoc.

Young Governor "Firing Squad" 7" ltd vinyl
YOUNG GOVERNOR "Firing Squad" b/w "25 With a Bullet" 7" (PIR-039)
In a few short years, Ben Cook has carved out a sweet little niche for himself under the moniker "YOUNG GOVERNOR." The Guv's stamp is pretty much everywhere you look these days: he writes, he records, he slings wax as a budding record label mogul, and he still finds time to rock the guitar in FUCKED UP. Last year, he even landed a part in some teen idol flick, playing drums opposite Nick Jonas, and lived to write a song about it for his agent. Word is, the Guv is taking it to the stage in 2011 with a full band. No ETA yet, but we'll all be paying attention for sure. This single marks our fourth dance with Ben and it's a real corker. "Firing Squad" was on its way to a super-indie when we rescued it, while "25 With a Bullet" appears here in its third--and best, we think--form. Limited to 600 copies, black vinyl.
