Mansfield based RIOT SQUAD were originally formed in September 1981 in the small Nottinghamshire mining village of Shirebrook. The original lineup consisted of Dunk Mason (vocals), Paul ‘Pommi’ Palmer (drums), Nigel ‘Nello’ Nelson (guitar) and Wayne Butler (bass). They first started out by playing small local gigs in and around Mansfield before hitting the road and travelling up and down the UK on small tours. During this time the band found a keen interest from Mansfield based record label Rondolet Records and were soon signed up, firstly releasing ‘Fuck the Tories’ EP, which was produced by Mike Stone and then a second EP ‘Riots in the City’ was released. Shortly after this time, Nello left the band to be quickly replaced by local guitarist Staz, who only lasted a short tour. Three men were almost immediately reduced to two when Dunk announced that he was leaving to set up his own record label, which later became Rot Records.
From early on, 1983 saw big changes to the lineup… Wayne moved onto the guitar, while recruiting local bassist Ched to handle bass duties and lead vocals being taken over by ex-roadie (and Wayne’s brother) Lee. A few short weeks after the new lineup was established, Dunk approached RIOT SQUAD as his first signing. With this new lineup also came a different sound and approach to their earlier material and the band were soon gigging all over the UK.

Criminal Class were oringally formed in 1979 by vocaist Craig St. Leon, drummer Mark Branski, bassist rick Bristow and guitarist Gary Meffen and there first gig was in December od the same year at The Zodiac pub in Conventry. Most of 1980 was spent playing gigs in and around the Coventry area quite often gigging with Crux. A Demotape was made during the summer at Woodbine Street Studios, Leanington Spa. The demo tape was sent to Garry bushell at ‘Sounds’ who seemed pretty keen on the band and invited them to appear at the first Oi! Convention at Southgate, North London.

The Destructors (aka The Blanks, Destructors V) are a punk rock band from Peterborough, England, formed in 1977 and active with a varying lie-up until 1984. They re-formed as Destructors 666 in 2006.The band was formed by former 6ck 6ck 6ck members Allen Adams (vocals), Phil Atterson (guitar), and Dip (Paul Wicks) (bass), along with a varying line-up including Andy Butler (drums). They changed their name to The Blanks before their controversial debut 1979 single, “The Northern Ripper” (released at the time that The Yorkshire Ripper was on the loose). The Destructors name was resurrected by Adams and Jackson with a new line-up of Neil Singleton (vocals), Andy McDonald (drums), and ‘Dave’ (lead guitar), with Jackson and Dave replaced by Dave Ithermee (rhythm guitar) and Graham “Gizz” Butt (lead guitar, formerly of The System, among other bands) before their next release, 1982’s Senseless Violence EP. Butt took on the job of writing about half of the band’s music, with Adams writing the lyrics. Singleton remembered the songs: “They could be very complicated and a right bastard to remember. He also seemed to have a fixation with serial killers!”. A series of EPs and two albums followed before 1984’s final album Bomb Hanoi, Bomb Saigon, Bomb Disneyland. The band split shortly after Bomb Hanoi, their records never living up to their live shows, and the band members falling out. According to Singleton: “I don’t think we ever made a really good record! They never ever lived up to our live shows; We were so much better on stage”. Of the frictions within the band, Butt said: “Neil couldn’t get on with Alan, and me and Dave didn’t want Andy on drums any more. We weren’t happy with Alan organising everything and neglecting his bass-playing role”. Adams immediately formed a new band, Five Go Mad In Europe, and resurrected the band name as Destructors V in 1984. Singleton went on to front Trench Fever. Butt went on to form The Desecrators, joined English Dogs, and later formed Janus Stark, also playing guitar with The Prodigy.
The band name was resurrected again in 2006 as Destructors 666, with former members Adams, Dave Colton, and Steve Rolls joined by a (largely) new group of musicians. They released a series of EPs from 2006 onwards and continue to perform live.

Anarchist punk band from Norwich, UK. Formed in late 1980, the band got off to an early start with a demo of Napalm being released by Crass Records on the Bullshit Detector compilation.1981 saw the recording and release of the first single, Young Offender, on the band's own label, Radical Change Records. This was a surprise hit in the indie charts and far outsold all expectations. The track Young Offender also appeared on Punk & Disorderly compilation.
By 1983 the band had a settled lineup of Steve, Kev, Paul & Steve.
The band were believers of direct action, which led to various arrests and court cases. They were also very active in their support of other bands, with releases by Destructors, Icon AD, Revulsion & Self Abuse on the band's label, as well as organising gigs.
The band split in 1988, disallusioned with the growing divides within the scene. Kevin went on to form Saigon Kiss. Steve Hansell was vocalist in New York Scum Haters.
In recent years there has been a DVD "Anarchy, Peace & Chips" released and also the anthology CD "Gas the Punx". There are murmers from The Disrupters camp that there may be a reform of the band.

Landmine Marathon's base of operations is Phoenix, Arizona and with three albums under their belt already it looks as if just maybe "Gallows" might be the one to finally break them to the masses. Fronted by the full-time political activist/part-time librarian and all around intense vocalist Grace Perry (who MTV called a "dynamic she-beast"!) this death-grind band have laid down a thunderous assault on the senses. When your raised on punk and hardcore like Perry was then fronting a blistering grind band like Landmine Marathon is going to have some seriously wicked end results. Looking to bridge the sonic gap between Bolt Thrower and Entombed and bring back the noise of crusty death means you have to lay down a fair amount of your own blood in the process and this five-piece band does that in bucket loads. This is one serious blow against the empire and even if album number four tones down the political banter in favor of more fantasy elements it never detracts from just have much of a budgeting affair this is. Intense doesn't even begin to describe "Gallows".... many thanx to Andy at Heavy Metal Time Machine.

Brand new EP from this 1/2 Dekalb and 1/2 Chicago grind powerhouse! Been over a year and almost 2 years since the LP was recorded for but these tracks were put to tape in spring and they had enough for 2 EP's, I got the 1st one of the 2. Andrew of Weekend Nachos recorded them this time instead of Kris Poulin and I think Andy has a better understanding on how this band should sound. Its louder, raw and the intensity is in your face. Corny way to describe this? Sure, but you know what? I think its fitting. 7 tracks and also on this one they got another hell of a raging good midtempo breather song that goes for a Today Is the Day meets Buzz.oven sort of thing and they still hit the speed factor to keep it from being a total buzzkill, no pun intended! I hate saying this still and I think they're bored of it by now but Adam was the 1st Weekend Nachos drummer (demo up to the split w CBS) and Kirk was in MK Ultra, who was always one of the few 90's HC local bands I ever liked. Cover art done by Alex of White Walls if you need to know who came up with that, Mr McCoy did the logo which adorns the back cover (and has resurfaced on each release since the demo). Here is the LIMITED Mailorder version! 100 were done on WHITE/BLACK wax Blend and I have 80 copies,, its basically GREY wax with slight WHITE swirls, these actually look pretty damn cool. - NickSick - Cowabunga Records.

To be honest, I am proud of 90% of the music I've released to date. I'll admit that other 10%, yeah these are what I've realized to be bad calls that I've kind of come to regret in a number of ways that will remain unmentioned, but this is one of my favorite records I've done and it was done by my favorite current band. It's NOT HARDCORE so I will just say that now. You only want super fast and have a closed in mind, you'll def not enjoy this. The band plays catchy punk but it's not pop punk. It's indie rock influenced but not indie rock. I can't describe this band exactly as its so spread out except they play their style extremely well and their songs stick in your head from one to the next. The sound they have now is a bit different from where they started. At 1st they had a Dinosaur Jr heaviness done to a Greg Ginn riff feast, a Husker Du wall of sound all crossed with a Descendents catchiness sort of way to their music. And yes, all of that still applies to the band to a degree but they incorporate more middle era Beatles, soul, early Kinks and post Let It Be later Replacements to the mix and that's Tenement's latest masterpiece. 11 stellar songs (the 1st 6 appeared on the rough mix tour tape release 'the Blind Wink' last winter) mastered by their guy Justin Perkins who's worked the knobs on the majority of their records. I would highly suggest this to those who actually listen to what I would consider good music as well as punk in general. Australia’s Extortion has got the idea of powerviolence pretty good- fast riffs, and even faster beats with a minimum of mid tempo or even slow parts. The matter of this very review is Extortion’s latest record, named SICK. And some sick album this is. An issue of Deep Six records, this purple vinyl features tracks in the vein of bands such as Infest, Lack Of Interest, Crossed Out, No Comment. The album cover is something that catches your attention right away- a suffering little girl with tears of pain in her eyes vomiting black fluid. Quite remarkable. The songs are conceptual and describe the slow and excruciating death of a person infected with the H5N1 virus. Each next song’s lyrics describe a different stage of the illness (Infection… Fever… Medication… Bedridden… Last Breath). What a ferocious idea, eh? So if you’re in the mood for a sweeping whirlwind of angry hardcore- get a hold of this record!

Taking a four year break since their last LP,"Punkista", the band took time writing "Uppror Underifran" to deliver 16 incredibly rock solid tracks that transition from their previous recordings to now have largely entirely Swedish lyrics, but still take relevant aim at U.S. War Policy, Capitalism and Mass consumption. Raging hardcore from the SF Bay area, NO STATIK's Debut 12" takes a straight forward 80's hardcore charge and detonates it with bursts of chaotic 90's hardcore rapid fire drumming, leaving Guitar leads sear and squeal out of the chaos as brutal vocals dredged and nail down dark, pointed lyrics. The 3rd Weekend Nachos LP,, musically its the most diverse yet as far as range goes and its obviously full of John's pointed lyrics but done with his insight which puts a spin on things with again a focus on human hatred, personal issues and HC scene pet peeves (who can escape those you know?). I also really like that this record has more mosh which makes sense, a little more metal in the right places, the crust and D-beat is done in a more real way thanks to Brian's drumming but this also touches up on the faster material like they used to have during the 'Torture' era giving it a sort of retrospective feel on things but not at the sametime, knowing they're not going away anytime soon.This though IS one of the best HC LP's of 2011, esp if you want brutal hardcore.

We have always been huge fans of these guys both in theory (they’re called The Shit Dogs, man!) and in practice. We first heard them as a 19-year-old LAZY COWGIRLS fanatic who followed every Southern California show of said band circa 1986-89; they debuted a new cover of the ‘Dogs “Reborn” during that epoch, and always took care to announce from the stage who had originally penned it. Great crap-fi, meathead punk number, and a few years later I heard the original on a “Killed By Death” along with the even better “Killer Cain” from the Shit Dogs’ “History of Cheese” EP. The band seem to have existed on the same who-cares, crap-for-crap’s sake mental plane as the SCREAMIN’ MEE-MEES, PENETRATORS and of course THE RAMONES, none of whom were crap in the least. One of the greatest bands ever to come from the early Australian punk scene which is why they made the number 36 spot on Johan Kugelberg's top 100 DIY 45's.A bunch of guys, all to varying degrees somewhat disengaged from mainstream culture & wanting something different. A bunch of guys living in a then non connected world but willing to make the effort to do something beyond go to the footie or go to the pub, like buy the NME, hang out at the local import shop come together through mutual musical interests & form a band. It took some monthsand some membership movement but on an unremembered date in '78 JUST URBAIN (& The Young Identities) 'arrived'. Yeah I think I saw that movie also! Anyway we did gigs, had fun in the practice room & for various reasons were involved with the 2nd Leftovers recording as well as the issue of their EP. So what do you know we take it to the next level in '79--Just Urbain, Young Identities & The Bodysnatchers go into a recording studio & spend an afternoon & a few hundred dollars recording 3 singles & behold not only do we have some singles but our own label is born. Fantastic stuff although it didn't really improve our standing in the local scene. Not that we cared. I wouldn't say we had a lot of attitude but we had enough.
