After the wildly successful debut full length album Satyagraha (2015) the Swedish d-beat punks embarked upon a 12-month project, with one new cover track appearing on the band's Youtube channel each month. The results were also released as a limited tape edition, and now it is time to put this concoction of old-school true metal and raw hardcore crust on vinyl. This is a one-time pressing of 1000 copies and it comes with a gigantic poster and a 6 page insert.

"Screaming For Change" was the debut album from Orange County, Californias’ godfathers of positive Hardcore: Uniform Choice. It was originally released in 1986 on the bands own label: Wishing Well Records. Vocalist Pat Dubar recently contacted Southern Lord with the desire to have a official re-issue of the classic album “done right”. After several unauthorized, completely sub-par bootlegs appeared Pat wanted a definitive version released to set the record straight!
This essential piece of hardcore history has been remastered from the original tapes by Brad Boatright (Excel, Nails, High on Fire, YDI, Brotherhood). The elaborate packaging includes a 8 page 12”x12” booklet bound into a stoughton tip-on gatefold jacket. There are a ton of amazing, never before published photos from the personal archives of the band and their friends. This is a very special release that is not to be missed!

Debut album from crust / hardcore / d-beat band coming out from Kristinehamn (Sweden) with members from bands like Myteri, Förgiftad or Gränslandet. Vengeance Of Karma started in late 2008 and has released several demos and guested on compilation records around the world. In the beginning it was more a crust band with fast, angry and more raw feeling over the band. Within time Vengeance Of Karma have been going more to an rhytmic and melodic hardcore with d-beat in the ground with some metal influences. The raw feeling is still there but with more atmosphere. Think latest recordings from bands like Martyrdöd, Myteri with touches of classic scandinavian crust bands like Skitsystem or Wolfbrigade. Originally released via Caroline Records, and produced by Randy Burns (Megadeth, Kreator, Possessed), The Joke’s On You, is the band’s second full-length which saw wide acclaim from thrash, punk, metal and “skate rock” circles (members have been known to have shared a ramp with pros Christian Hosoi, Eric Dressen and Tony Alva). Drawing influence from a diverse range of artists including Black Sabbath, Black Flag, Jimi Hendrix, and early era Corrosion of Conformity, people often talk of ‘crossover’ genres but none quite do it as exceptionally well as Excel.
This reissue, remastered by Brad Boatright, includes the 12 tracks featured on the original CD edition. The closing track 'Blaze Some Hate' was not on the original album (it was released as a 12" single via Caroline) , it will appear on this LP reissue/remaster.
Excel is a now-defunct punk/metal fusion band from Venice, California. The band never achieved commercial success during their years of performing and recording, but they are considered to be one of the first crossover thrash bands to come out of Venice, along with their hometown heroes Suicidal Tendencies. They started in 1983 under the name Chaotic Noise and members at that time were Dan Clements (vocals), Adam Siegel (guitars), Rickey Palamino (bass) and Evan Warech (drums). In 1985, they changed their name to "Excel" and Palamino and Warech left the band since then. Their replacements were Shaun Ross and Greg Saenz.
After releasing two albums, Split Image in 1987 and The Joke's on You in 1989, Siegel joined Mike Muir's Infectious Grooves in 1991. However, during this time, Excel had already started working on new material for what would become their third and last album, but was put on hold several times, due to Siegel's tour schedule with Infectious Grooves. The album, titled Seeking Refuge, was not released until 1995. After that, Excel broke up.

The Jokes On You came out a full two years before Metallica's Black Album. Painstakingly and lovingly put together by the band and Southern Lord this is the ultimate archival release. Fully blown vocal/lyrical desecration concerning man's selfish and destructive acts/philosophies accompanied by Barnes' original ROARAFC "caveman electronics", this was one of the first sessions for Bastard Noise and it proved very early on that noise IS music and that The Skull is here to stay...

The Hated was an Annapolis, Maryland emo band from 1985 to 1990. The original members were Mike Bonner, Erik Fisher, Daniel Littleton, and Colin Meeder. The Hated are known as one of the earliest emo bands.

After an early start as a parody of some of the DC hardcore scene's more rockist tendencies, the band's music quickly became more serious, more musically complicated than that of many of their contemporaries and followers, including melodic basslines, vocal harmonies and guitar playing (and tunings) borrowed from folk music, and drumming often more reminiscent of Keith Moon of the Who than most punk and post-punk drumming. The lyrics were complicated as well, occasionally containing biblical allusions or phrases in French and German.

The Dead Boys, originally know as Frankenstein, The Dead Boys were a punk rock band formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1976 after the breakup of Rocket From The Tombs. They adopted the name The Dead Boys when they relocated to New York City in July 1976 where they were active until 1979. They briefly reunited in 1986 and again in 2004 and 2005 without Stiv Bators who passed away in 1990.

A neo-dadaist group from Redditch, UK, formed in 1977. Guitarist Martin Seys and drummer Ethos Yapp left the band early. From there on, as a 4-piece, they managed to release six singles and two full albums (most of them on Small Wonder; some appeared in the indie charts Top 30), interspersed with some dada happenings. Between July 1979 and November 1982, they were also asked to make four sessions for the legendary John Peel radio show.

Tenement: Shit, I was feelin’ sorry for these kids for having to follow the Culo stuff, but they more than handle their shit here, delivering two tracks of pitch perfect, early Midwestern-sounding poppy punk (not pop punk) with loud guitars and the kinda songwriting that sticks in your head for days on end. Do you fancy powerful tunes? Do you like violent music? If the answer is YES, therefore you are a powerviolence hound! If so, these lads sure will appeal to you. Australia’s Extortion has got the idea of powerviolence pretty good- fast riffs, and even faster beats with a minimum of mid tempo or even slow parts. The only three slow songs are: Bedridden, Body failure and Rot (a teeth grinding instrumental), which are not to be doubted about their fuss and energy. The matter of this very review is Extortion’s latest record, named SICK. And some sick album this is. An issue of Deep Six records, this white vinyl features tracks in the vein of bands such as Infest, Lack Of Interest, Crossed Out, No Comment. The album cover is something that catches your attention right away- a suffering little girl with tears of pain in her eyes vomiting black fluid. Quite remarkable. The songs are conceptual and describe the slow and excruciating death of a person infected with the H5N1 virus. Each next song’s lyrics describe a different stage of the illness (Infection… Fever… Medication… Bedridden… Last Breath). What a ferocious idea, eh? So if you’re in the mood for a sweeping whirlwind of angry hardcore- get a hold of this record!

Weekend Nachos feature members of Harms Way and are once again mixing the powerviolence of Infest and Crossed Out with burly metallic guitars and masterful riffage, totaling twelve tracks on "Unforgivable." Brutal as FUCK 2nd LP from my fave Chicago band. The band is now back with Andrew who was their guitarist on the 'Torture' EP but don't think for a second the band has reverted back to the sounds of that record. On this 2nd full length record the band still has some of that unique mix of NYHC, YOT and Infest sound as shown on the Punish LP but it also incorporates a bit more HHIG, Tragedy and Deathside influence of hardcore creating almost melodic angry hardcore tunes here but they also continue to add the influence of deeper and heavier hardcore to their sound that they'd previously hinted at in their evil blend of hardcore. There's even this early Hatebreed and Blood For Blood sound but fear not for where they got that sound down a little, there's more semblance lyrically to those bands. This is the most HATEFUL material the band has done to date and I've never in my life seen a band continue to write such angry and despising lyrics like this and to actually make them more pointed and just get better in time astounds me. The tracks off the This Comp Kills Fascists were already in the red but this really takes it. Basically John hates all of us and you have to accept that. This was one of 2009's best hands down and if you like hate filled hardcore and constantly feel like taking out someone, living a life that's constantly weighed you down by constant shit this LP is for you. Just buy the record.
