The posse from the north..…Germany’s northernmost Hardcore Rap crew from the island of Sylt to be precise. Two previously unreleased tracks have just been unleashed, “4 Parts Of War” which clamps down on racism, nationalism and fascism and which features Dark Shade from Hamburg-Hardcore combo Respublica, and the uptempo track “Northside” on the flip side, with it’s non-interchangeable and uncompromising German hardcore style. Both tracks have been recorded in 1994 and made their way on the Prophets’ Demo-Tape the same year, which caught the attention of Blue Eyes, who took two of the tracks for the infamous “Underground Unsigned” sampler the same year (“Bastard” and “German Passport”). The rest of the tracks remained unreleased before the downloads were made available here and Britcore Rawmance finally picked them up to press them on wax. And here we go – Lyrical Prophets as part of the “Seven Deadly Sins Series” on a 33⅓ 7″ on red wax, with two tracks more than 20 years old.

Tempo and abrasiveness, hard hitting drum patterns overlain by sirens and last but not least vocal samples from legendary Britcore crews are used. Even from the titles you can guess that these guys are trying hard to be classified as such (Katch 22 / Gunshot). From the first moment I heard this band I was a believer. Being truly creative in a horribly uncreative scene is something to be applauded. Then again maybe all you need is to be from Buffalo, New York and it just comes to you naturally? Whether or not it’s in the water isn’t important, what I’m focusing on is that Brown Sugar shreds like no other band. One thing that separates them from their contemporaries is solid talent and their ability to know when to say when. Brown Sugar songs aren’t overly complicated (as if they are trying too hard), but they are more complicated than the average punk song. They don’t appear to be pandering to a specific trendy sound, they just happen to appreciate some of the finer aspects of recording punk music. The Luvly single has surely surpassed the other singles, splits, and the LP, in that they have grown and embraced some more diverse musical elements. I mean there are harmonies for fuck’s sake! And… I don’t even hate them! (I love harmonies, just not in unexpected places -Ed.) Instrumentally things build and plateau then build some more before falling apart. Songs go from intense and driving to suddenly light and airy. It really is a strange thing to hear from the same band who previously wrote straight forward ripper’s like “Brown Eyed Girl / Copper Helicopter.” - thanx to Just A Visual.

This third output from Low Threat Profile features Infest's Matt Domino not only playing guitar and bass but doing all of the vocals as well, with the band being rounded out by Bob from Deep Six/Lack Of Interest on drums. These nine tracks are exactly what should be expected: fast, intense hardcore that borders on the powerviolence played by those who originated the genre. Kohu-63 is one of the more notorious Finnish hardcore bands, famous for vocalist Lättä's prison sentence for manslaughter in 1983 a few months after the release of the band's debut full length album Lisää verta historiaan. The LP was a luxurious package for its time and genre, it featured a 12 page A4 booklet and a 12" insert meant to be used as a graffiti stencil. Kohu-63 went on hiatus for a couple of years with Lättä in prison, so the buzz around the band died down and the album became one of the rarest Finnish hardcore LPs. Copies with both inserts intact change hands for sums up to 200 euros. The Svart reissue is otherwise an exact repro of the original - with the booklet and the stencil - apart from the addition of a one-sided 7". It consists of rare uncensored versions of two songs which appeared on the album in censored form: "Poliisit on verisii persereikii" (The police are bloody assholes) and "Me ollaan jumalia" (We are gods). When the label heard the recording sessions, the band were requested to change the profane lyrics of these blatant anti-authoritarian and anti-religious ditties.
